Rehoming Scheme

EXPLANATION OF THE LOAN & FOSTER SCHEME

The MRCC re-trains and re-homes ex-racehorses to loan homes for the rest of their lives. The MRCC is a registered charity.vWe take good care in seeing that the horses loaned out are in good health.

We inform the loaner about any vices or problems that we have had with the horse. By the time the horse is ready for its new home, a lot of time and money has been spent on the horse. Working as other welfare charities do we ask for a non-refundable re-homing fee when the horse is taken from the Centre. This stands at £500 - £1000 depending on the market value of the horse.

In the Foster scheme if an individual has taken on the care of a horse for us who needs a lot of treatment, the rehoming fee that they paid will be partly paid back to them when the horse is rehomed again and fit and healthy.

Should the loan not work out and another horse is subsequently taken from the MRCC no further fee is required but the fee is never refunded.

The application procedure is as follows ….

•When we think we have a possible match we arrange the first visit to the centre. This is strictly by appointment only - arranged by phone.

•The prospective loaner comes to try the horse and get to know the horse on the ground. We ask that 2 visits be completed to match a horse to the loaner.

•The loaner's will riding will be assessed as will their ability and knowledge.

•If we decide the match is suitable then we will arrange a home check to the premises where the horse is to be kept. We do not except homes that have no year round turn out or no stabling.

•The MRCC and loaner sign the legally binding contract, laying down the terms and conditions of the loan. The horse remains the property of the MRCC.

•Once the contract has been exchanged and the re-homing fee received by the MRCC the loaner can make the arrangements for transporting the horse. The loaner is responsible for the cost of transport and for all the costs of keeping the horse thereafter.

•In the event of the horse being returned by the loaner for any reason, the MRCC requires one month’s notice and the loaner is responsible for the cost of the return transport.

All our horses will go on to have fulfilling lifes and our loaners do a fantastic job helping theses wonderful horses happy and busy.
