From the British Horse Racing Board Website.

Around 7,500 Thoroughbreds of all ages are sold at sales in Britain each year for an annual turnover of UK £200 million.

Attendances at British race meetings are at an all time high, and topped six million in 2005.

Typically, a Thoroughbred's life will begin on a stud farm.

These are the factories of the breeding industry, with some 300 stud farms in Britain producing over 5,000 Thoroughbred foals each year.

THE SLAUGHTER THAT SHAMES OUR RACING

What the BHB don't say is where ex-racers end up? In September 2006 the MRCC visited one UK slaughter house, frequented by some big name trainers, that killed 2000 racehorses a year. Youngsters and older horses alike huddled in pens, shaking as the gun shots rattled through the barn.

Most were healthy horses there to be exploited for the last pounds that the racing industry could squeeze out of them. Their fate? A French dinner plate. WRITE A LETTER TO GORDON BROWN ASKING THIS CRUEL TRADE TO STOP
